Nicholas Lucas, 2022

Nicholas Lucas is the recipient of the Teck CCSF Scholarship. He is currently completing the second year of a DPhil in Earth Sciences at Darwin College at the University of Cambridge, where he is doing research to advance the understanding of the amalgamation of a large portion of Canadian crust, and more generally contributing to the understanding of what occurs at depth beneath active mountain ranges such as the Himalayas.

A native of Ottawa, Nicholas completed a Bachelors of Applied Science in Geological Engineering at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. During his undergraduate degree Nicholas led and assisted with a considerable amount of field work in western Québec and northern Ontario to characterize the tectonic, volcano-sedimentary and mineralization processes that shaped Canada between 1 and 3 billion years ago. He was also a Dean’s Scholar, the winner of numerous Geological awards, including the J. Allan Donaldson Prize, and the recipient of a prestigious NSERC scholarship upon graduation.

When he is not in the field, Nicholas volunteers his time to tutor teenagers in the physical and mathematical sciences and shares his passion for Earth Sciences as a demonstrator for a first-year Earth Science course.

Nicholas was awarded the Teck Scholarship 2022 – 2023
