It is with great sadness that the Canadian Scholarship Centennial Fund has learned of the death of scholar Christian Elliott [2008]

Elliott pursued a Master’s degree in Cello Performance with a Minor in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (UK), where he studied with Hannah Roberts and Ralph Kirshbaum. During this time, he was the first CCSF scholar to be awarded the Belle Shenkman Award for the Arts. He is remembered by the CCSF Committee Members as being a very gentle and talented individual.

Elliott’s talent as a gifted cellist and composer was showcased by his versatile career with the Zehetmair Quartet (an ensemble renowned for performing from memory), the former principal cello of the Irish Chamber Orchestra, and the premiere of his string sextet Amulet at Wigmore Hall among many other achievements.

The Zehetmair Quartet’s heartfelt tribute said: “We are heartbroken that our great cellist Christian left us. What stays with us are dear memories of being together and enjoying the love between us. Thank you, Christian, for your pure energy and commitment over the years—we miss you deeply.”
