Christiana Myers is in her second year of PhD studies in the History of Art at the University of Glasgow. Christiana grew up in New Brunswick and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University before pursuing a Master’s in Curatorial Practice at the Glasgow School of Art.
Her doctoral research, which extends an established interest in the intersection of art and illness, explores the representation and contextualization of COVID-19 in contemporary art. By analyzing the artistic and curatorial use of epidemiological metaphor, her work investigates the ways the virus has been employed or weaponized symbolically amid concurrent crises of health and social injustice. Her interest is in how these characterization methods may reflect, or influence, art historical narratives and social dynamics of illness. Her thesis, and its accompanying curatorial programming, will also address the ways in which societal shifts related to the pandemic are being reflected in, or amplified by, requests made to art institutions for evolved accountability and responsibility.
In addition to her studies, Christiana is a practicing curator, writer, educator, and artist. She has participated in projects, residencies, and exhibitions in Canada, Finland, and Scotland, and has worked with a variety of organizations ranging from artist-run spaces to government institutions, including Third Space Gallery, the New Brunswick Museum, the Hunterian Art Gallery, Kouchibouguac National Park, and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. In 2019, she was selected as an Editorial Resident at Canadian Art magazine and, in 2021, participated in the Momus Emerging Critics Residency.
Christiana’s creative and professional practice often revolves around the concept of care—for oneself, others, communities, or the environment, and her writing and contributions on disability and access, museological practice, and art and climate justice have been featured by C Magazine, Visual Arts News, publications by Goose Lane Editions, as well as the Owen’s Art Gallery and InterAccess Gallery. In 2024 Christiana is set to publish her first book of creative writing and photography that reflects on the experience of navigating the natural environment with chronic illness.
Christiana teaches writing and art history with the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design and contributes to ongoing policy work to raise the socio-economic status of professional artists in Canada. Always eager for opportunities to draw connections across disciplines and to enrich education and understanding by highlighting artist’s work, Christiana looks forward to applying her knowledge in art history, medical humanities, and social history to a future curatorial role in the Canadian museum sector.

Christiana a grandi au Nouveau-Brunswick et a obtenu un baccalauréat en beaux-arts de l’Université Mount Allison avant de poursuivre une maîtrise en pratique de conservation à la Glasgow School of Art.

En plus de ses études, Christiana est conservatrice, écrivaine, éducatrice et artiste.
