Oboist Christopher Palameta specialises in historically informed performance. Born in Montreal in 1979, Christopher earned his graduate degree in Early Music Performance at McGill University. Today he enjoys a distinguished career as a professional oboist, and from 2003-2007 was a core member of the Toronto-based Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, one of the world’s most renowned period ensembles.
Currently residing in Paris, Christopher has worked with many of the world’s finest period orchestras including those in Canada, Australia, the US, France, Germany, Belgium, the UK, Italy, Finland and Russia. With these ensembles, he has toured across five continents and participated in over forty commercial recordings.
Furthermore, since 2018 Christopher has been Professor of Historical Oboes at the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki University of the Arts, Finland).
In addition to his career as a performer, Christopher is pursuing his PhD at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London, where his research is focused on historically-informed practice, a field that has changed drastically over the past decade and which is currently undergoing a thorough reappraisal. Specifically, his investigations focus on the nineteenth-century oboe in France under Berlioz.
Christopher maintains strong ties with the Canadian early music scene and returns regularly to North America to perform with leading period ensembles such as Ensemble Arion in Montreal and Tafelmusik in Toronto, as well as to participate in academic events where he has shared his ongoing research with Canadian performers.
In addition to being a CCSF Scholar in 2020, Christopher received the CCSF’s Belle Shenkman Award for the Study of Arts in 2018.
