The CCSF held a reception to celebrate its recent scholarship students on Tuesday, 22 November in London. Recent and past CCSF scholars attending were able to meet and mingle with HE The Honourable Ralph Goodale, High Commissioner for Canada, Maple Leaf Trust members – Robert Brant (MLT Chair), Ashley Gallant and Jenny McCann, donors to the Maple Leaf Trust and CCSF committee members.
Four 2022 scholars gave brief presentations of their work:
- Faith Decontie, a First Nations, Algonquin and Noakoda-Sioux PhD Social Anthropology student spoke about her research at Aberdeen University on indigenising Canadian policy practices. She attended with her sister – both wore beautiful traditional ribbon skirts.
- David Zucchi, studying at the Huddersfield Centre for Research in New Music talked about his research on the saxophone music of James Tenney who taught at York University and on his sax performances.
- Tomas Borsa, studying at the University of Oxford, spoke about his doctoral research into the social histories and ramifications of ultrafast Fibre-to-the-Home broadband in the communities of Haida Gwaii.
- Vesna Curlic, at the University of Edinburgh, talked about her PhD work on the history of global migration to Britain.
Danielle Perro, who studied at the University of Oxford, spoke about her research on women’s health and gave us an update on her work since receiving a CCSF scholarship in 2020.
